Defenders (Stone) Open Season

The Defenders’ 2010 season officially opened on April 11th, a beautiful sunny Sunday morning.  The team played their season opener as the first game of the Rose Classic got underway in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.  April Sykes, a forward on Rutgers Basketball team, was in attendance to watch the contest, along with many loyal fans and family members.  Coach Stone’s team got off to a rousing start, with a 30 – 12 lead at half time.  They finished with a strong 57 to 22 final score.

They faced a significant challenge in their second game, facing an aggressive opponent with a strong press.     They succumbed 49 – 19, after giving up a large number of turnovers.  They bounced back in their third game of the day, leading 30-5 at the half.  They finished strong with a 50-29 final score.  The team headed back to New Jersey, with lots of work ahead of them!
