Shalette Brown Named NJAC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for Second Time

Freshman guard/forward Shalette Brown (Somerset, NJ, Franklin Township) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Monday.

Brown, named for the second time in three weeks, helped Montclair continue its best start since 2003-04 as the Red Hawks improved to 5-0 overall, 3-0 in the NJAC, with wins at William Paterson and home against Rutgers-Newark.

Brown had 10 points, six rebounds and three assists in 17 minutes as Montclair defeated the Pioneers for the first time since 2009, a span of seven games. Brown ignited a 15-point second half run as MSU pulled away for a 62-41 win. She then had eight points, seven rebounds and six steals as Montclair completed its week with a 67-36 win over Rutgers-Newark in its home opener.
