Freshman Shalette Brown Named NJAC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for Fourth Time!

Montclair, NJ – Freshman guard/forward Shalette Brown (Somerset, NJ, Franklin Township) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season on Monday.

Brown earns NJAC Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time this season after averaging 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game during a 2-0 week of play for the No. 22 Red Hawks which extended their season-opening winning-streak to 13 games.

She opened play in the MSU Holiday Tournament by recording eight points, four rebounds, and four steals in a 67-49 first round victory over Washington College. One day later, she produced 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, while adding four rebounds, one assist, and one steal in a 77-34 championship game win over Widener.

Brown, who earned All-Tournament Team honors for her play in the two games combined, currently leads the NJAC in steals (4.6 per game) and was the national leader in the last NCAA Division III statisical report on December 16. In addition to steals, Brown is also ranked in the Top 20 in the conference in scoring (10.1 ppg), rebounding (5.6 rpg) and field goal percentage (.509).

Brown’s efforts have helped Montclair State to the best start in program history at 13-0 with the 13 straight victories the longest winning streak by the Red Hawks since the 1977-78 campaign.
