Montclair, NJ – Freshman guard/forward Shalette Brown (Somerset, NJ, Franklin Township) earned her fourth straight New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week honor on Monday.

It is the ninth time this season that Brown has been named, matching teammate Melissa Tobie’s total from a year ago when the latter was named the league’s Rookie of the Year.

Brown helped Montclair State complete an undefeated regular season for the second time in program history and ninth time in MSU Athletic history as the Red Hawks won twice to move to 25-0 overall, 16-0 in the NJAC. Montclair also tied the program record for win in a season, matching the mark of 25 set by the 1978 squad that finished third in the AIAW National Tournament in Los Angeles. MSU became only the third school to go undefeated in conference play in the last 13 years. Kean went 13-0 in 2009-10, which was played in a divisional format, and College of New Jersey posted an 18-0 record in 2000-01.

Brown averaged 11.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals in two games for MSU while shooting 83.3 percent from the free throw line. She scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds along with five steals in a 71-42 win at Kean before posting a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds as MSU improved to 25-0 with a 76-47 victory against TCNJ.

Brown averaged 10.3 points per game and 6.8 rebounds in her first season at MSU. Ranked 13th in the NJAC in scoring and 10th in rebounding, she is second in the conference at 3.9 steals per game and is third in field goal percentage at 46.2 percent. Brown registered five double-doubles this season, including three of her last four entering the NJAC Tournament.
