Freshman Shalette Brown Earns Seventh NJAC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week Honor

Collects Award for Second Consecutive Week

Montclair, NJ – Freshman Shalette Brown (Somerset, NJ, Franklin Township) claimed her second straight and seventh New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honor on Monday.

Brown averaged a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in two games last week as No. 8/10 Montclair State clinched the NJAC regular-season championship for the third time overall in program history and the first since the 2008-09 campaign.  MSU will be the No. 1 seed in the NJAC Tournament which begins on February 16. The Red Hawks will have a first-round bye and host a semifinal contest on Wednesday, February 20.

Brown had 18 points and nine boards in a 79-56 win at Ramapo. She also had three steals in the game as MSU swept the season series from the Roadrunners.  She then added 10 points and 11 rebounds, her third double-double of the season, as Montclair improved to 22-0, 14-0 NJAC with a 62-49 win over Richard Stockton.

The 22 wins are the most by Montclair since the 1989-90 season when it went 23-6.

Brown is currently ranked 19th in the league in scoring at 10.0 points per game and is 13th in rebounding (6.2 rpg). She is also third in the conference in field goal percentage (.476) and is second in steals (4.0 per game).
