Jeffers Named NJAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Senior Helps No. 5 Montclair State to NJAC Championship, NCAA Bid

Montclair, NJ – Senior forward Taylor Jeffers (Franklin Township, NJ, Franklin) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.

A First-Team All-NJAC selection, Jeffers helped Montclair State to its first NJAC Championship in 18 years as the undefeated Red Hawks knocked off Rutgers-Newark and William Paterson to claim its second conference crown in program history and first since 1995. In addition, MSU also earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, Montclair’s first apperance since the 1994-95 campaign and its fourth overall.

Jeffers averaged 19.0 points and 7.0 rebounds along with 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks in the two wins as MSU improved to 27-0 on the year breaking the record for the longest winning streak in school athletic history. Montclair surpassed the previous mark of 26 set by the softball team in 2008.

Jeffers scored 16 points and grabbed four rebounds in Montclair’s 83-55 win over Rutgers-Newark in the semifinals and then recorded her fourth double-double of the year with 22 points and 10 rebounds helping MSU claim the title with a 75-54 victory against William Paterson.
