Montclair, NJ – Freshman guard/forward Shalette Brown (Somerset, NJ, Franklin Township) keeps piling up the accolades as she was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the third straight week and eighth time overall this season.

Brown’s selection is just one shy of matching teammate Melissa Tobie’s nine awards last season. Between Brown and Tobie, Montclair State has won 17 of the last 29 NJAC Rookie of the Week honors over the past two seasons.

Brown recorded her fourth double-double of the season scoring 14 points and grabbing a season-high 15 rebounds helping the No. 7/9 Red Hawks to a 79-46 win at New Jersey City University last week. She connected on 6-of-13 attempts from the field and added two steals as Montclair, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Rankings, upped its record to 23-0 overall, 15-0 in the NJAC.

The 23 victories as well as the 15 league wins are the most by MSU since the 1989-90 campaign (23-6) when it won the NJAC regular-season title at 17-1 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Brown currently ranks in the Top 10 of the conference in four categories. She is second in steals at 4.0 per game, a figure that is also 15th in Division III. Brown is third in field goal percentage (.475), 12th in rebounding (6.6 rpg) and 16th in scoring (10.2 ppg).
