When Jada Atchison began her career at Burlington City High School, she hoped to leave her mark on the program. Four seasons later, the senior point guard has become the most decorated girls basketball player in school history.

As a senior, Atchison led the county in scoring with 22.3 points per game and finished her career with 2,009 points. She became only the seventh girl in Burlington County history to eclipse the 2,000-point plateau, despite missing the final two weeks of the season with a foot injury.

For her extraordinary season, Atchison is the Burlington County Times Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

“She wanted to be remembered for doing great things. She accomplished that and more,” Burlington City coach Mark McCann said. “She definitely brought a sense of pride and competition back to our program.”

Atchison will graduate as the school’s all-time leading scorer (boys or girls). But her sensational scoring ability wasn’t even her most admirable trait on the court.

The senior captain embraced her role of team leader to the fullest extent in helping a young team finish 19-9.

“I wanted to show the younger players what high school ball is all about,” Atchison said. “I just wanted to help get them better every day to help them succeed in what we do.”

But when it was time to score, she was going to — no questions asked. Atchison had the ability to drain 3-pointers from well beyond the arc along with the quickness to drive to the hoop at will.  Click Here For Full Article
