Senior forward Shalette Brown double-doubled for the third straight game

Senior forward Shalette Brown double-doubled for the third straight game as the ninth-ranked FDU-Florham women’s basketball team coasted to 94-62 victory at Centenary College on Tuesday night.

The Devils (3-0) outscored the Cyclones (1-1) by 18 points in the third quarter and broke the game open. Brown led the way with 22 points and corralled 13 rebounds in the win. The MAC Freedom Player of the Week was incredibly efficient as well and knocked down 11 of her 14 shots on the night.

The Devils raced out to a 10-point lead (16-6) in the early going after a 3-pointer by Danielle Leguillou and four combined free throws from Alyssa McDonough and Rachel Groom.

As a team, the Devils knocked down five 3-pointers over the first 20 minutes of action and carried a 43-34 advantage into the break. The Cyclones did a good job of limiting the turnovers with only six giveaways and shot 46.9 percent from the floor but the long-range shooting by the Devils was the difference in the first stanza.

The stifling Devils’ defense was on display in the third quarter, applying constant pressure that in total resulted in 13 second-half turnovers by the home team. The swarming defense held the Cyclones to just 10 points in the frame and a 17.4 percent shooting clip in the second half.
