Senior shooting guard Amanda Carney (26pts) and Freshman point guard Rachel Kuhl (17pts) almost pulled off the upset of the night in middlesex county girls basketball as they roared out to a commanding lead against South Brunswick. As the game began it was clear that South Brunswick’s defense was geared to stopping the senior from having an impact on the game. However, showing off what has been a consistent long range jumper for her career, University of Maryland Eastern Shore commit demonstrated her ability to take on the double team and still impact the game. What shocked all in attendance except for the Old bridge team was the play of freshman sensation Rachel Kuhl. Playing in her first high school game this kid calmly dropped 5 threes in the first have that left South Brunswick scrambling to adjust as Old Bridge too a 30 to 18 half-time lead. Once the second half started it was clear what the game plan was going to be for the rest of the night. Get Physical, be aggressive and force the officials to make the calls. Unfortunately for Old Bridge it would see that the officials were not up to the task. With Carney getting injured at the start of the 3rd quarter and having to miss the entire quarter and part of the 4th, South Brunswick began to take control of the game storming back to take the lead. However with Carney re-entering the game Old Bridge was able to battle back and send the game into overtime with game buzzer beater by Carney before falling in overtime by 5 points.
