MADISON, N.J. (December 19, 2017) – Sophomore Kendrea Williams of the FDU women’s basketball received three additional honors Tuesday.

Williams becomes the first Devils student-athlete to be named National Player of the Week by the United Stats Basketball Writers of America. The prestigious organization selects one male and female from each division to be player of the week.

A day after being named the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Player of the Week for the second straight week, the sophomore was selected to the Team of the Week. Williams averaged 32.5 points, 3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 21-of-38 from the field, including 12-of-22 from three. The sharp-shooter was the National Rookie of the Year in 2016-17, and is the first Devil named Team of the Week since Alyssa McDonough last February 6.

For the second consecutive week, Williams gained ECAC Metro Region Player of the Week honors. The 2016-17 ECAC Rookie of the Year was also the subject of a D3 Sports News article by Scott Schultz.

In a setback against No. 17 Messiah, the sophomore shot 6-of-16 for 20 points while pulling down five rebounds. In a dominant win against Hartwick, Williams set a new-school record while also breaking Scranton’s gym record (male or female) with 45 points on 15-of-22 shooting. She tied her own mark with nine three pointers and outscored Hartwick 33-31 in the opening half.
