Williams Sets Single Game Three-Point Record as Women’s Hoops Tops Drew

MADISON, N.J. (December 4, 2017) – Sophomore Kendrea Williams set a school-record with nine three-pointers as the FDU women’s basketball team overcame a slow first half to top Drew 86-64 Monday.

Williams broke the previous mark of seven, which she jointly held by with Leigh Ann Lively. The Piscataway, N.J. native hit the mark twice last season, while also knocking down seven in the win over Cortland back on November 18.

The Devils and Rangers both are now 3-3 after the contest tonight.

After trading three’s to open the game, the teams played each tight to the hip, as neither side was able to jump ahead by more than six. A jumper by junior Kayla Croswell put FDU up four, but Drew tallied a pair from the charity stripe to cut the gap to two heading into the second quarter.

The Rangers began the second with a 6-0 spurt, and a jumper with 3:23 left gave the hosts their biggest lead at six points. Sophomore Gabrielle Harris scored five straight for the Devils and Williams hit a pair of free throws, but a layup with 39 seconds left gave Drew a one point edge entering the halftime break.

Drew led at the half thanks to 13-of-25 shooting (52%) while each side pulled down 16 rebounds.

FDU surrendered the first four tallies of the second half, but Williams converted treys on back-to-back possessions to give the Devils a lead. The consecutive three-pointers kick-started an 11-0 run, before Drew responded with seven straight of their own.
