Defenders Alumni, Kendrea Williams, 2018 MAC Freedom Player of the Year!

MADISON, N.J. (February 22, 2018) – Sophomore Kendrea Williams of the FDU women’s basketball team was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Player of the Year Friday.

Williams, who was also chosen as a First Team All-MAC Freedom selection, became the first women’s basketball player to claim Player of the Year honors since Kyra Dayon in 2013-14. The sophomore standout, who was named the MAC Freedom and Rookie of the Year last year, led the conference with 21.7 points per game and also led the conference with 96 three-point field goals made.

When it came down to conference action, Williams averaged 19.0 points and hit 43 times from the behind arc while also hitting 59-of-65 (90.8%) from the free throw line. The Piscataway, N.J. native re-wrote the record books again, setting new school-standards for points in a single game (45) and three-pointers in a single game (9).

Williams was a two-time MAC Freedom Player of the Week and also was selected to the Team of the Week. More impressively, she became the first player in FDU history to claim the United States Basketball Writers of America Player of the Week, while also garnering ECAC Metro Player of the Week accoladres.
