Defenders @NYLiberty Game Fundraising Event!



The Franklin Basketball Club is teaming up with the NY Liberty to attend a game and raise funds. Spend the day in New York City enjoying the sites, great food, and atmosphere of midtown Manhattan. Then finish it all off with the exciting entertainment of a NY Liberty basketball game and the return of Essence Carson to face former teammates Epiphanny Prince and Tina Charles! We are reaching out to alumni families to help us reach our goal of selling 150 NY Liberty vs LA Sparks tickets on May 21st at 6pm (Madison Square Garden). The flyer contains all the information you need to support the program and get your tickets.

Senior Taryana Kelly Matched Her Season High 14 Rebounds For UMES!

BALTIMORE – Trailing as much as 15 points, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women’s Basketball Team rallied and cut the deficit to a single-possession late into the fourth, but were unable to complete the comeback as they fell to in-state rival Coppin State, 61-54, inside the Physical Education Complex (PEC) Arena.

Despite only shooting 31-percent (17-of-54) from the floor, the Lady Hawks were scorching from behind the arc. Collectively, the club went 7-of-13 from downtown with Subritzky and Keyera Eaton (Winston-Salem, N.C.) leading the charge.

Subritzky finished with a team-high 17 points on 60-percent (6-of-10) from the field, including four trey balls, while Eaton added 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Senior center Taryana Kelly (North Brunswick, N.J.) matched a season-high 14 rebounds in the loss.

Furthermore, forward Alexis Udoji (Randolph, Mass.) reached another milestone as she became the 23rd player in the program’s NCAA Division I history to play in at least 100 games. Udoji finished her afternoon with four boards and three rejections.

Eaton tallied nine points in the opening period, but the Lady Hawks trailed after one quarter of play, 18-15. Both squads struggled in the second; however, the Eagles managed to balloon their advantage to double-digits at intermission, 27-17. Click here for full article

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – In their final home game of 2015, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women’s Basketball fell to the Old Dominion (ODU) Lady Monarchs, 69-52, inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.

With the loss, UMES dropped to 3-10 overall while the Lady Monarchs moved to 4-7 on the season.

Coach Fred Batchelor modified his starting lineup, inserting three new faces: seniors Chalyse Taylor (Louisville, Ky.) andTaylor Thompson (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and freshman Ciani Byrom (Winston-Salem, N.C.). Although the Lady Hawks shot only 26-percent (6-of-23) from the floor in the first half, Maryland Eastern Shore found rhythm in the second half as they shot nearly 42-percent (13-of-31).

Despite outrebounding the Lady Monarchs, 40-39, UMES could not capitalize from the charity stripe. Overall, Maryland Eastern Shore shot 52-percent (12-of-23).

Defensively, UMES held the Lady Monarchs under 40-percent (19-of-54) from the floor, but ODU made clutch three-pointers as they finished 40-percent (8-of-20) from downtown.

Senior center Taryana Kelly (North Brunswick, N.J.) registered her first double-double of the season, third overall, finishing with a career-high 15 points and a season-high 11 boards in 35 minutes of action, which was also a career high. Taylor chipped in a season-high 11 points and two boards in the loss.

Congratulations to FBC Defenders Alum, Taryana Kelly, and the UMES Hawks! Championship Bound!



NORFOLK, Va. – No. 8 seed Maryland Eastern Shore’s improbable run continued on Friday afternoon, as the Lady Hawks survived No. 4 seed Norfolk State 69-64 in overtime in the semifinal round at Norfolk Scope Arena.

UMES (13-16) will play for the MEAC title on Saturday against either North Carolina A&T or Savannah State, roughly 30 minutes after the conclusion of the men’s title game.
